Working within a brutalist tradition known for its blocky and rectangular geometries, Robarts is certainly original, but not without pedigree. Unfortunately, forty years of dissatisfied use indicates that the architectural success of the building as a cultural object does not wholly guarantee into its serviceability as a library.
