God does not tell us why some are born right and others are not but God is sovereign and we must trust in Him, no matter what state others or we are born into.
He was sent out of the Garden before he could eat of the tree of life and thus live forever in a state of condemnation. All born from Adam and Eve are born IN this condition , dead and in trespasses and sin.
It is a condition where we are vulnerable and prone to sin. Jesus Christ paid for the sins of the world but the offer of salvation must be received by individuals. Once born we are accountable for either receiving or rejecting the salvation that GOD has made available because HE does not want anyone to perish. God said that if we will seek Him with our whole heart we will find Him.
That is we will be equipped with the knowledge we need to receive salvation. I am revisiting this very relevant and much needed article Jack and just wanted to say that I am glad you wrote another article entitled!
According to the Bible babies who are not capable of understanding their sinful nature and their need for a Savior do go to Heaven if they should die. Of course only God knows when that age of accountability is reached.
I know of many who have rejected Christ because they feel that saying we are sinners right from birth is unfair to the infant. Thanks for being there for all of us!! Thank you for always upholding the truth of the Gospel even in this very permissive age we live in where the word sin is unheard of!!
Your ministry is a greater blessing then you will ever realize!! Judy, I so appreciate you my good friend. I thank God that there are encouragers out there for I get my fair share of criticism…from other Christians….
Thank you and I thank God for you. That contradicts the act I am currently working on. Before he reaches the age of accountability he is abandoned by his parents and left to live on his own…. Is he going to heaven or hell? I know this sounds outlandish but just trying to get your point of view. The reason I believe Jesus was not born a sinner is because he was not conceived of humans. Mary was impregnated by God. Thank you for your point of view on this. Thank you Marinechamp.
There is none that do not sin, no not one, says the Bible. None seek after God and all humans sin. It is not possible that someone, even if left alone, would be in the jungles and at the age of accountability, and no one knows what that age is, would still sin, even in their mind. None go to heaven unless they are perfect. The innocent person in the jungle who never heard of Christ and never sinned would go to heaven but the problem is, they do not nor can they ever exist.
I am not sure about hypothetical possibilities but I must stand on what the Bible says. I wish I was more help to you my friend. When we are born do you believe we are a sinner at that point or do we have to commit our first sin before we are considered a sinner. I understand that we are destined to sin and need Jesus who paid for that sin. Are we born with one sin tick mark because of Adam and Eve or are we perfect until our first sin. Thank you again for trying to help me understand this question.
Thank you again my friend for your question. Who among us can say we are without sin 1 John , Since we know that Jesus is called the Lamb of God Who was slain before the foundation of the world Rev God knew in advance Adam and Eve would sin and so would we. None are perfect. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. I know this is hard to understand. Hope you understand. Thanks for your reply. I do understand everything you are saying and I believe it is true but still looking for a simple answer to this question.
Are we born sinners or are we born sinless but destined to sin? Is this question just not clear in the bible or not answered? I know we will all sin. I know all the scriptures you are referring to. Thanks again. That is the Word of God saying that, not me.
Sorry its hard to understand but I must rely on what God says and dozens of Scriptures clearly show that we are born sinners. That answers my question.
I will use many of these scriptures in my presentation. I read this post after my last post. I have been saved for almost 40 and very involved in church. Either way we are all going to sin eventually and all need Christ who paid that sin. Just trying to get your perspective on the topic. I love the message you preach and teach and am going to sign up for your newsletter.
Thank you for your online ministry. I will leave you alone about this topic now…lol…God Bless. My friend…I appreciate so much your very kind words. I get most of my persecution from others who claim to be Christians so your encouragement means a lot sir.
Thanks Jack Just to let you know the Issue I was struggling with. The magic trick I ordered has to do with sin. It has 2 clear glasses of water. One glass is described to be like a new born baby. Clear and clean of sin. Then it describes how we eventually sin at this time I pour the other glass of water into the one that describes a clean baby and it turns scarlet. Just struggling how to re-word this to indicate to children that we are already sinners when we enter this world.
Any suggestions? My good friend and brother in Christ, I am so pleased you are working with these children. Thanks brother. This might give you a better idea on how to share the gospel with children. Here is why it must be shared in a different manner with children:. A young boy stood in the kitchen with a knife pointed at his chest. The obvious lesson is that children take things literally and are concrete thinkers.
The way to share Jesus with young children is far different that than of adults. Also includes how to raise godly children, talk to them about sex, the best parenting style, and how to be saved by repentance and trust in Christ. It went very well I think.
You really helped me understand a few things I was struggling with. Thanks and the video is below. Thank you so much. That means that all babys that die are not going to heaven. Thank you David for your question. I was reviewing this discussion and just wanted to add one thought. I was raised Roman Catholic so it will show here. What does that mean? It is not merited, just as we are never worthy, as I have discussed at length with another contributor on this site.
Yes, I do believe God will not hold someone accountable for something that they cannot understand…as for the rest of adult humanity…they and we, are without excuse. We just ARE, deal with it, right? That is NOT what happened. For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband.
Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. Babies and small children will inherit the heavens. Perhaps a certain innocence is broken. Amen Roberto. I agree about those who cannot fully know the gospel. We have an article that talks about that. My question is, since all have sinned and that includes new born babies and the Bible says that before we are saved Satan is our father John does that mean when a baby is born that he is the child of the devil?
I agree that unless a person can understand what it means to repent and turn to Christ, God will not hold them accountable. God tells us today that all must repent and believe.
Does that help? Rom for [the children] not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls.
Born in into a simple working class family, I was raised, like many of my peers, to believe in God the Father, Jesus His son, and the Holy Spirit.
I attended Sunday school and church on a regular basis into my late teens and continue to this day to read the Bible and, whenever possible, follow the teachings therein. I pray, someday, people will return to a simpler, more conservative life-style and establish a solid foundation so all of our offspring including my grand-children and great-grandchildren can seek a life of happiness, peace, and love.
If anyone can find the word sinner in Romans 3, I will thank him for it. Where is the sinner mentioned in this chapter? Please note that the sinner is never mentioned here. Some have said that because Romans 3 talks about man sinning, it proves that man is a sinner. But Romans 3 does not mention the sinner.
It is Romans 5 that talks about the sinner. Therefore, we must make the distinction: Romans 3 is on the problem of sins, and Romans 5 is on the problem of the sinner. All that Romans 3 tells us is that all have sinned. It is only in Romans 5 that we are told who the sinners are. Everyone who was born in Adam is a sinner.
This is what Romans tells us. If you open up J. We are all sinners by constitution. When you write a resume, there are two things that you must put in. If it is already pre-determined that we are all sinners, then why must we repent? God made us like this. Is it really our fault, or is it his? Please help me. It has been on my mind for a very long time, and I feel I am pulling away from God. Answered by Fr. Edward McIlmail, LC A: It is good to hear that you are taking seriously your responsibility to educate your children in the faith.

First Name. This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged. Keyword Search. Appreciate what you read? Help us continue providing authentic Catholic spirituality! One was held by parts of the medieval Church in Europe, which acted as if the human being had so little positive value in them that the only thing a Christian should do is constantly tell themself how worthless they are and how little good can come of their life.
Some of them even physically brutalized themselves with starvation, whippings, beatings, extra-long pilgrimages , extreme exertion, and such, to meet this supposed requirement for mortification, somehow hoping to find their release from the misery of sin by inflicting more misery on themselves.
This created quite a few self-wounding people who lacked the courage, self-esteem, and sense of empowerment to do what the Spirit was trying to have them do. Mortification, done that way, was one of many ways that key parts of the medieval Church were sucking the life out of the whole Church. This way of imagining mortification is still found in a few parts of the Roman Catholic church, and is echoed in their own way by many Fundamentalist Protestants.
This was not originally their idea, though. The roots of mortification are deep in much of Western Asia for a thousand years before Christianity, and some groups in Islam still mortify this way.
Because of that gruesome record, many people have come to believe that the core of the Christian faith actually teaches people to mortify themselves that way. After all, the apostle Paul himself brings up the subject. He said that the believer is to die to sin, so they can live in Christ, and even used how he treated himself as an example.
But his self-discipline talk was about sucking the life out of the desire to do what God says is wrong, moment by moment. And, it was never something done to anyone else or demanded of anyone else. Paul was not saying "destroy all creativity , deviations from the rules, fun, personality, feelings, etc. In fact, Paul writes about the great freedom of action which comes from trusting in what Christ did.
But there is something about each of us that insists on being our own worst enemy, and an opponent of God. That is what is to be killed, or ' mortified ', because in the long run, when it's all over, that is what can mortify us forever.
Christ mortifies your sin, with your support, in order to really live -ify yourself. Mortification is never itself a goal. It may be what we need so we can keep the goal in sight. It's hard to get people to know the true story about mortification when so many of them have met Christians who insist on a false story. The self-torturing version of mortification must itself be mortified, so we can feel the full force of God's grace. The violence we preach is not the violence of the sword, the violence of hatred.
It is the violence of love, of brotherhood, the violence that wills to beat swords into sickles for work. They'd be mortified to find out how far it could really go. You can find ' mortification ' in the dictionary.
